The company

Vivo is a Chinese technology company headquartered in Guangdong, China. It is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics, which also owns Oppo, RealMe, and OnePlus. Vivo mostly manufactures low-end and midrange phones, but over the years it has developed innovations that give its phones a premium feel despite being sold at affordable prices.Vivo develops smartphones, smartphone accessories, software, and online services. It has 10,000 employees and research and development centers in Guangdong, Nanjing, and Shenzhen.

According to them, the world's fastest-growing smartphone brand, Vivo is focused on delivering powerful innovation for everyone. They are large in the Asian market. Vivo are smartphone providers in Mainland China, Singapore, Indonesia, India, and Russia amongst other countries in Asia with a presence in more than 20 countries.

Vivo was once established in 2009, selling its phones in only China for a time. This changed in 2014 when the company prolonged its reach to a few extra countries, predominantly in South Asia. The company launched its first smartphone in Europe in 2020 and now sells its units in a few international locations on the continent along with the UK, France, Italy, and Spain.

Vivo is now one of the 5 top smartphone manufacturers in the world, ranked fourth in Q4 2013 by IDC, with a 4.3% global smartphone shipment share.

Vivido, through its parent or guardian company BBK Electronic products, was innovated by Chinese entrepreneurs Duan Yongping and Shen Wei. Both continue to be with the company up to this day, with Yongping serving as BBK's president while Wei is acting as Vivo's chairman and CEO. Vivo became China's largest smartphone vendor in 2016 with a market share of 11.3%, according to the data from International Data Corporation (IDC). In 2017 it was ranked as the third-largest smartphone maker in the world by sales volume, behind Samsung and Apple.

Vivo has announced a plan to build a $1.3 billion factory that can produce up to 200 million phones per year, compared to 50 million produced by Oppo and Vivo combined in 2015.

In a few years, Vivo phones could be sitting on store shelves next to Samsung Galaxy and the iPhone. Marketing firm Counterpoint Technology Market Research said Monday that Vivo commanded a 5 percent market share in China in the second quarter — more than Apple, Microsoft, and others. The company's sales volume was 5 million units thanks to its low-cost offerings, Counterpoint said.

In a surprising twist, in June 2020 the cybercrime unit of Meerut Police revealed that more than 13,500 Vivo smartphones used in India were running on the same IMEI number. The IMEI number is a 15-digit code meant to be unique to every mobile device and could be used for tracking criminals or stolen mobile phones. By using the same IMEI number for multiple devices, Vivo could have hampered police tracking of criminals or stolen devices. Regulatory Authority of India stated that all mobile devices would be required to have a unique IMEI number. Failure to do so would be seen as tampering and could result in a fine of up to 3 years of imprisonment.

Their technology

Dedicated to creating top-notch products with about 50 models of smartphones, Vivo has been driving the mobile phone industry towards innovations. As the first brand to launch a phone with a motorized rotating camera and the world's first smartphone with a notch display, Vivo has gained widespread global attention and recognition for its diverse range of technological breakthroughs and product success. Vivo collaborates with designers, artists, photographers, and sculptors from various fields to create innovative devices as well as enrich smartphone application experiences, they strive to develop new technologies and leading-edge designs that consistently push the boundaries of what's possible.

Vivo uses a design-driven approach to create fewer bezel displays and elevate front cameras with Zeiss optics. The Vivo X70 Pro is their flagship at the moment, the world’s thinnest smartphone, offering HiFi audio technology in an ultra-slim body with a 6.39-inch screen and 4GB of RAM. It comes preloaded with the Google Suite of apps, including Google Maps and YouTube, so you can explore at your own pace, with more personalized information as you need it. Using AI Technology, HiFi sound is effortlessly generated through an ‘invisible speaker’ through a noise suppression algorithm—giving you crystal clear music wherever you are. The camera that rises out of the body itself proves to be a design solution that is centered on user experience. The Vivo X70 Pro's "Selfie-cam" has 6 lenses, 20MP Aperture, and f2.0 aperture. With Selfie-cam mode, you can adjust shutter speed and ISO values to get a better quality picture.

The future

Their fast-growing popularity in Asia is a fact and it would not be so long until Vivo takes the fight against other large Chinese smartphones companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo in the rest of the world.
