A dystopian future

For a long time I didn't want to see The Handmaid's Tale, the series on HBO.

It didn't appeal to me, the sad minimalistic pictures from the series I saw opening the HBO app to see a program or a film.

Then a couple of weeks ago, I thought I should give it a try.

And I fell.

For you two who don't, like me, have seen the TV series, is it a fantastic story about a dystopian totalitarian future based novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood.

I have watched two seasons straight in a couple of weeks, and was so fascinated by the story and what fanatical people can do to push their ideas through.

And I started to think, and look around.

Before World War Two, there was a fascistic political movement in the whole of Europe. And we know how that ended. In a total chaos with many, many peoples death.

It resulted, thank God, in a democratic movement and UN. In a way of trying to unite the whole world. Something good came out of the tragedy.

Now, with the invasion of Ukraine by Putin, a Third World War is close. And Europe seems to have the same tendency.

Dangerous, racist and non humanitarian political parties are winning power in many countries in Europe, again. Wanting to close the border for immigrants fleeing from war and a life in poverty.

In Sweden, where I live, the SD party has won a lot of power in the government. SD is raised from a National Socialistic organisation and have changed their clothes during the time so they look nicer.

But it is the same dangerous people at the top, with the same anti humanistic thoughts.

They have won with simple populistic political arguments. Making people believe that immigrants are a huge problem of many things in our country.

Making people believe that the rising cost of petrol, electricity, and other rising prizes was the government's fault.

And the real reason, as many of us know, is the f…ing Putin and the war in Ukraine.

How will this end?

Seeing The Handmaid's Tale is giving me a scary vision of a future Europe, and the rest of the world.

How can a change to this happen?

How can we vote for something like that?

Is a new era with terror and fear growing?

A scary future is close, and on top of all there is an environmental problem we have to do something about, like that isn't enough!
